Aches and Pains (0)
The past year or so has seen me go from being really really physically active to, well, kind of lazy actually. Well not exactly lazy, but it is far from being as physically dynamic and exciting as it used to be.
My physical life used to revolve around surfing and Hapkido, both of which I love and cherish and find hard to separate in terms of how I use my body to perform them. Both challenge me in a variety of [...]
Why I Can’t Do a Surf Trip (1)
I was watching Fuel yesterday and they had a really cool documentary about a couple of guys driving through Baja - Lewis and Clark style - looking for swells.
These guys had a nice 4×4 with a popup tent and they just drove and drove and drove looking [and stopping] at various locations throughout Baja. Of course they had a photographer and camera crew following them but let’s just take that out of the equation for a second.
I was thinking to [...]
Erin and Amber (0)
When I was in high school I was fascinated by two girls, Erin and Amber. They were best friends and popular, but not in the cheerleader or rich-kid kind of popular. No, they were the rebels. They cut class, they dabbled in illegal substances, they gave teachers attitude. All while managing to look fashionable with great hair and great skin. They were the girls with the attitude I never had.
No. I was on-time to class, went to every class and [...]
The Other Woman (2)
A once-boyfriend was having a passionate affair with another woman— and her name was Golf.
And the worst part, he wanted to have a three-some! I’m not kinky but I do have an open mind and a curious one as well; I wanted to know what this Golf had that was so appealing that it lured my surfer boyfriend out of the water and onto the grass.
And so there I was, somewhere between Ewa Beach and a Monopoly of identical townhouses [...]

Why I Hate Technology (or should I leave you two alone?) (1)
Growing up I was always taught that you give your full attention to the task or person you are with. If I had a friend over and the phone rang, I wouldn’t chat on the phone because I had company. I would let the person on the phone know I was busy and call them back at a later time when I could give my full attention to them. Anything less was just rude. Apparently cell phones changed that rule.
Most [...]
Wine and Chocolate (0)
My Aunt and Uncle have started making their own wine.
In reality, it is quite easy to do and doesn’t contain the preservatives that are found in store bought wine. In additon to making wine for the taste and enjoyment (definition of enjoyment in this context: the ability to drink more and not fell junk the next day because the wine doesn’t contain preservatives), they are also making and drinking wine for health reasons.
Attached to the wall in the kitchen is [...]
No Worries (0)
Last summer when the economy dipped, my clients stopped updating their websites. My Craigslist ads for new projects went unanswered. The Web consulting business I had dutifully built up to supplement my passion for teaching yoga and acrobatics suddenly evaporated.
I panicked. I panicked some more.
I posted more ads. No answer. I started thinking about taking on a part-time job. I found myself telling my friends how broke I was and how afraid I was. They were scared too.
Meanwhile other things [...]
Advice NOT to Go By … (0)
Although Good Housekeeping will never ever publish the following pieces of wisdom collected over the years, these are great gems to live by:
If you’re choking on an ice cube, simply pour a cup of boiling water down your throat. Presto! The blockage will instantly remove itself.
Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold the vegetables while you chop.
Avoid arguments about lifting the toilet seat at home – use the sink.
For high blood pressure sufferers: simply cut [...]

Yeah, we get it. You surf everyday and get paid, you’re an up and coming waterman with booster rockets for fins. You are a rockstar!
Wait, that’s not you at all is it? You are a working person with a full time day job, oodles of personal and financial rsponsibilities, a tight schedule with family and friends mixed in with meetings and agendas … but you still manage to surf 4 to 5 times a week no matter what the conditions.
That’s [...]
FILM REVIEW: Miles to Surf (2005) (0)
In the aftermath of the global economic downturn, and the inevitable tightening of the purse strings, services offering cheap and accessible entertainment for the masses has seen an increase in patronage.
This is where the online video rental mega-giant Netflix comes into the conscious forefront.
As of late, I have been on somewhat of a roll in finding and watching surf-related movies from Netflix … often receiving the DVD in the mail, watching it, and returning it via the postal service all [...]
FILM PREVIEW: Where the Wild Things Are (Trailer) (0)
The film combines live action, suitmation, animatronics, and CGI … currently scheduled for October 16, 2009.
If you EVER were a fan of Maurice Sendak’s acclaimed children’s book “Where the Wild Things Are”, then this first official film trailer, directed by Spike Jonze, should be of great interest to you. It has been in production since 2005, and a pair of ‘08 release dates were scrapped, with accompanying speculation that the Warner Brothers execs thought the “Being John Malkovich” director’s take [...]
How to Enjoy Waikiki without Spending a Penny (almost)! (0)
Living in Honolulu is a wonderful thing … I love this island, I love this city, I love this place. One of the things I have been in the habit of doing is “playing tourist” every now and then, so that I can re-orient myself to the truly wonderful things that this place has to offer, that I may have lost sight of or simply forgotten as I go about my day to day activities.
I WAS going to assemble a [...]
